Sabal LisaThe Sabal Lisa, also known as Sabal Palmetto Lisa is a form of Sabal Palmetto. It has only recently been discovered in Florida. It is reputed to be a hybrid plant. Many people believe that the interesting form of Sabal Palmetto was created during genetic mutation. The Sabal Lisa has unusual (mutant) leaf form.

Recently it has been introduced into cultivation, but is still relatively rare. The Sabal Lisa is a tough and beautiful specimen, and will get the attention it deserves. It can be used as an ornamental for streets and parking lots. Sabal Palmetto Lisa will make a nice container plant.

Growth rate: Slow

Trunk: The trunk is rough and covered with persistent leaf bases. It grows up to 30 feet in height.

Leaves: The difference between the Sabal Lisa and the Sabal Palmetto in the leaf arrangement. The Sabal Lisa has costapalmate, acute, not pendulous, not filamentose, rigid, not strongly divided, cupped, slightly undulately leaves.

Water requirements: Regular watering

Drought toleration: Good

Cold toleration: It is cold hardy to 4-10 F.

Flowers: The branched clusters of flowers come among the leaf bases.

Fruits: This “mutant” palm bears round, black fruits.

Propagation: It is propagated from seed. Germination occurs in several months. Seedling are not identifiable from the Sabal Palmetto in their first five years.
